Harrison County is strategically located in the center of the United States within the Omaha–Council Bluffs MSA. With access to transcontinental interstates, rail, air and barge service, the area has a leading edge logistics advantage.
Interstate 880, a bypass off Interstate 80, a primary east coast–to–west coast artery, runs along the south boundary of Harrison County. Interstate 29, a major NAFTA route, runs up the west side of Harrison County. The area is also served by U.S. Highway 30, a major east-west route. These major U.S. transportation corridors enable businesses to reach most national markets within one to two days by truck.


Union Pacific’s north-south and east-west trunk lines connect at Missouri Valley in southwest Harrison County. Canadian National also has a main rail line traversing the county. BNSF operates a line in eastern Harrison County.
Two airports are located within 30 minutes of Harrison County. Eppley Airfield in Omaha provides access to commercial air passenger and air freight services including a foreign trade zone and customs services. For small, private aircraft, the Council Bluffs Municipal Airport has a 4,100 ft. x 75 ft., hard–surfaced runway.
Three barge terminals are located in Council Bluffs along the Missouri River. A new, multi-modal port operates at Blencoe, Iowa.
