Small Business/Entrepreneurial Centers

Iowa Western Small Business Development Center provides free and low-cost counseling and training to the areas entrepreneurs. The SBDC counselors work with new business start-ups and expanding businesses.

Iowa Western Community College Entreprenurial Training Center provides Fast Trac® business planning and training for entrepreneurs.

University Research and Technology Centers

SWIPCO is also the designated economic development area for a six county region, including Harrison County, and provides funding assistance to new and existing businesses through its Business Revolving Loan Fund.

Iowa State University is recognized both nationally and internationally for its strong programs in agriculture and engineering and in the basic sciences.  In recent years, Iowa State has launched bold new research and technology transfer initiatives including agricultural biotechnology, bioinformatics, materials science, food safety, biorenewables and information sciences.

Iowa State University’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) provides educational seminars and individualized technical assistance to Iowa manufacturers in the areas of engineering, management practices, procurement, productivity and quality management.

The University of Iowa’s research strengths are world–renowned in the health sciences and biosciences, in educational testing and measurement, and in engineering and space exploration.

The University of Northern Iowa offers a wide range of resources to assist business and industry including ag–based lubricants, waste reduction technologies and metals testing.
